For 16 years, FilmSlam has been Central Florida's only consistent, public screening event for independent filmmakers. We have grown to become a popular local screening outlet as well as a collaborative and creative networking opportunity for independent and student filmmakers throughout the State of Florida!
Our history began in Downtown Orlando at the historic Rogers Kiene Building. We grew at Enzian Theater, and continue to grow at our new venue, the Orlando Museum of Art!
FilmSlam has always been independently organized and run by local artists who donate their time and talents to ensure Florida's novice, student, and professional filmmakers, especially those in Central Florida, have a dedicated public place to screen their works.
We are a safe space for filmmakers of all ages, disciplines, backgrounds, and abilities including filmmakers who happen to be female, minority artists, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Each screening begins at 2pm, runs for 60+ minutes, and is followed by a live Q&A which broadcasts live on Facebook.
We have partnered with the fine Impress Ink folks and Orlando Merch Store to produce our first ever FilmSlam t-shirt! While we did not envision doing this during a global pandemic, we hope that our filmmakers and audience will get a chuckle from a design that only we at FilmSlam could come up with!
Our first design features our classic audience voting ballot on black with a generous tear across the 1 star, our lowest possible rating for a film during a screening. We like to think that none of the Florida made independent films we screen deserve a "1" but in the case of COVID-19, we will 100% allow it! Our second design features our original FilmSlam logo on grey. Look for future designs soon!
#MerchOnOrlando's support of Orlando's restaurants, small businesses, and non-profit organizations (like us!), $10 from the purchase of each t-shirt will go directly to us and $2 will be donated directly to our friends at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida! It's a win-win!
Practice safe sets!
We encourage all filmmakers, crew, and talent to complete Safe Sets International's free COVID-19 (Level A) Certificate course online.
We are living in challenging times, and clearly industry practices have changed. Whether you're part of a huge production, or a smaller one, understanding the new practices and protocols of production benefits *and* protects everyone. Safety first ALWAYS.
